We were told that there were going to be 30,000 people in attendence. (There were 40,000). We were told that if you didn't get there before they closed the garage, you had to hike in. (We were lucky--it was our standard 2-mile hike in). We were running a little late and didn't arrive until 11:00 am, manuvered into 10th row seats, and waited for the show to begin. For the next 10 hours, we kept ourselves busy by "sunning" ourselves, hiking the Presidents Trail, touring the exhibits,watching stage entertainment including Retro Bill (an Elvis impersonator/motivational speaker), forever snacking, watching fly-overs of F-16's, B-2 and B-1 Bombers, and watching the entire hillside fill with people. It was the longest 10 hours of our lives, but well worth the discomfort. 
The fireworks show was hands-down the best we've ever seen. It kind of ruins us for any show that doesn't have a backdrop as grand as Mt. Rushmore. We could feel the finale pounding in our chests.Then it was off to the races with the other 39,998 people to make it back down the 2-miles to our car under a moon-lit sky and forty thousand flashlights. What a day to remember.
